Chromic: A World of Stories plays soundwalks by Chromic: stories, music and sound placed in
real landscapes. Put on headphones, go to a walk's location, press Start, and the audio
changes as you move.
Getting started
Open the app and allow location when asked. The app uses it only to play the sounds
around you, and only while a walk is playing.
Tap Soundwalks and choose a walk. Each one belongs to a particular place, so head
there before you start.
Press Start. The walk downloads, then plays. Put your phone in your pocket: it keeps
playing with the screen locked.
Common questions
I pressed Start but I don't hear anything.
Each walk only plays at its location. If you're not there yet, the map shows where the walk
is. Also check that location access is on for Chromic (in your phone's Settings) and that
your volume is up.
Where is Shimmers in the Field?
Tregaron Conservancy, 3100 Macomb St NW, Washington, DC, open every day from dawn to dusk.
There's no fixed route: start from any entrance and wander. Headphones are recommended.
The audio stopped when I locked my phone.
Make sure location access is allowed and the walk is playing. It keeps going in the
background until you pause it, end the walk, or fully quit the app.
Does it use a lot of data?
Each walk downloads once (roughly 40–60 MB) before it starts, so nothing streams while you
walk. Downloading on Wi-Fi before you go is a good idea.
Why does it need my location?
Only to decide what you hear, and to sort walks nearest first. Your location never leaves your
phone. See the Privacy Policy.
Reporting a problem
In the app: open Settings (the cloud icon on the map) and choose Report. The
walk you're listening to is filled in for you.
