Chromic: A World of Stories · Last updated: September 22, 2026
Chromic: A World of Stories ("the app") plays soundwalks by the artist Chromic: music and stories placed at real locations, heard through headphones as you walk. The app is built on and run by Songitude. This policy explains exactly what data is involved.
While a walk plays, the app reads your device's location continuously to decide what you hear. This happens on your device. The list of walks is sorted nearest first, also on your device, using your most recent location. Your location is never sent to Chromic, Songitude or anyone else.
A soundwalk is meant to be heard with the phone locked and in your pocket. So while a walk is playing, the app keeps reading your location with the screen off, for the same single purpose. Location access starts when you press Start and stops when you end the walk, quit the app, or the walk ends. When nothing is playing, the app does not read your location at all.
On Android this runs as a foreground service, which is why a notification is shown while a walk plays. That notification holds the lock-screen controls. It is the only notification the app ever shows. We send no alerts, reminders or messages.
Nothing about you. There are no accounts and no sign-in. The app stores the walks you download and your settings on your own device, and nowhere else.
If you use Settings → Report to tell us about a problem, the app sends the text you type along with the walk it concerns, the app version and your device model and system version, so we can fix it. Reports carry no name, account, email address, device identifier or location. If you want a reply, include a way to reach you in the message yourself.
The app contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and no third-party trackers.
Every permission can be declined or revoked in your device settings. Without location the app can still show you the walks, but it cannot play them where they belong.
Nothing is stored about you, so there is nothing to delete on our side. Uninstalling the app removes the walks and settings saved on your device.
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data. It does not collect anyone's data.
We may update this policy. Material changes will appear here with a new date.
